My new anti-anti-anti driving glasses are definitely dangerous. My eyes actually feel unusually sharp now, but my head hurts. [Hours later, after wearing them only while driving.] With them on, I felt like a drug addict. Superpowers. Too good. Must resist wearing them unless my eyes are already messed up and I need it, but how can I, when everything looks preternaturally perfect?

Wow, that was so cool! ITrip on the Telefunken (trippy!), then test-driving around randomly on the road to nowhere, identifying the songs as Dean picked them. I did very darn well. Didn't want to come home. I want to play the iTrip song ID game every time we drive somewhere!

Strong medicine. I have to be careful with these.

Thursday-ing and listening to Christmas music on my mini while the wind howls and inside doors slam shut (okay, maybe slam is an exaggeration). Must remember to print out my ALB entries and lists from last year, to bring to Huh. "Santa's Beard" is definitely one of the best Christmas songs ever. It just is. (Even though I hate Santa Claus.)

Now Wunderground says they're 50 mph gusts, not 40. I guess I won't be going outside to dry my hair.

Those slacks at Cohen's still aren't done with my cool new Smart Dr. Eye-approved anti-glare anti-UV anti-heaviness anti-frame anti-wonky transition driving glasses (to wear as a bonus on top of my contacts). I table-pounded them today, so they should be ready tomorrow. I hope. Lots of Bob in the Advocate (great Boonstra content) but I left my copy in the car when I went off with Dean to drive around in the cold rain, and it's still out there. The lady at the eye store said it might snow tomorrow, but I don't believe it. 40 mph gusts, though! If don't post, it'll probably be because I blew away.

What the heck. Are we really leaving in 10 days??

MY TREEI didn't know MY TREE was that easy to get to (I'd never driven there without Dean before). It seemed to take no time (although, I did have good company... did lots of driving today, but it didn't seem like it at all). Now that I know how easy it is, I must go back again; maybe while I'm practicing for Hawaii. I don't think I've ever visited MY TREE in the autumn before. I picked up one of his huge leaves from the ground, and it was a lot pointier than Gifford's. None of my photos were that great; it's very hard to capture MY TREE on camera. (He just doesn't fit, for one thing.) Here's one looking up.

Tired. I had a really, really fun day. Socializing. Talking and listening and laughing. And, visiting MY TREE. Today was so beautiful, so sunny and clear. MY TREE was full of autumn leaves, and his sister was full of buttonballs. When I looked up (up, up) into her branches, I exclaimed in wonder, "Look at all those buttonballs!" It was amazing. Saw the front cover of the Advocate (I'll read it tomorrow), and it's nothing but the word AAAAAARGH!!! in bold black, about four inches tall. Took some photos at MY TREE, but I don't know how well they came out. Didn't take any of myself smiling like mad (even though I was). I think that was my most successful socialization session ever! Susie said she wasn't surprised Dean and I are libertarians. Ha. True.

I guess my internal alarm clock knows how to avoid tenterhooks. Went to bed wondering if this would be drawn out for eleven more days, but a couple seconds after I woke up and stumbled over to my computer, I got a just-sent e-mail from Dean that said "03-Nov-04 11:06 Kerry Calls Bush To Concede White House Race -AP." I know some people who will be very relieved, but just about everyone I come in contact with (in person, e-mail, and blogs) is probably numb with disbelief. Connecticut's so Democratic, there's a pall hanging over the entire state right now. (I'm detached, as always.) Just noticed, after being stuck on the 13th for three months, the date on my watch has started working again. Bizarre.

Dean: "Futures, man! Up 31.5!!!"
Laura: (Glances up from making "Vote for Badnarik" hand turkey sign.)
Dean: "I want to post it on your blog!"
Laura: "Do it."

All right, Badnarik has 2,680 votes in Connecticut thus far! We thought he'd get two.

Dean: "What do you think will happen if W actually wins? ...(Laura gives puzzled look)... You know, given all the effort that's been put into defeating him, all the get-out-the vote efforts, how much some people hate him, the millions of dollars spent...?"
Laura: "They'll be bummed."
Dean: (Groans)

[Conversation transcribed by Dean.]

When I walked up to the cashier at Starbucks who always knows my drink without me needing to order it, she immediately asked, "Did you vote?" I answered, "Yep. My sticker fell off, though." And she said, "They don't make them sticky enough. We should be able to wear them all day!" I actually don't usually even wear my sticker, but that made me smile. (And so did the fact that neither she, I, nor the barista ever mentioned one word about my drink; they just rang it up, made it, and handed it to me.)

East Berlin is a great place to go to the movies, and it's a great place to vote. No lines. Empty voting booth waiting, even! Very, very E. I brought my iPod just in case, but I didn't need to use it. I played "Dear Mrs Roosevelt," "I Ain't Got No Home," "Grand Coulee Dam," and "This Land Is Your Land" (from the Rolling Thunder Revue) in the car anyway, though. Bob Dylan signing Woodie Guthrie makes excellent election day music, especially with a bunch of Canadians on backup. :-) Now I am addicted on Richard's crying-cat vocals on "Mrs Roosevelt."

Also, two other great things today: I bought a Christmas ornament at Ursel's and found the latest issue of All Round at the ION Market!!! All About Inventing! They only had two copies, and I bought them both, so, sorry, everyone else. All Round is too hard to find.

I had a Suder over tulips, and now my eyes are a mess. Can't see a thing. Anxiety-induced ciliary spasms are the worst.

Ate my final Pumpkin Injunction of the year today, and it was good. Pumpkin pancakes. We both wanted it, but Dean finally gave in and let me order it, since he didn't think we should both get the same thing. I gave him a bite, of course. It was best pumpkin product of all, I think.

When I woke up this morning, I still had my earphones on, with my iPod resting on my chest. City Day playlist.

Felt wonderful last night and this morning, but now I'm all shaky. It was a beautiful, beautiful warm afternoon.
Hate Halloween.
The time feels all wrong.
Turned off the front light.
Our waiter had all his clothes on backwards (as a costume), but not his shoes.
