On the way to Nancy's today, my M gave me the best bookmark ever. (It's a family heirloom.)

My lamb skirt passed the Tango test. I officially like it.

Here's the nano's new suit: front and back. Except, the stars are actually a much darker, very deep rich red (quite similar to blood)--a very close color to the screen and clickwheel windows, actually (which are, in turn, lighter and cherry redder than they appear in the picture). My scanner is nuts. Underneath the star on the back is a circle of red velcro which keeps the nano snug. And the screen lights up bright pinky-red when it's on. It's highly readable.

I figured out a top that looks good with my persian lamb skirt!! And it goes with my formerly-oatmeal colored tights. (They were too pasty looking, so I tea dyed them a couple days ago, so now they're darjeeling with a pinch of lapsang souchong colored.) I'm going to wear the skirt today to Nancy's to try it out. Baaa.

Wore myself out sewing. I made the persian lamb skirt, with no huge disasters (I was worried about the shaggy curls getting stuck in the zipper and/or needle, or the fabric squirming all around, but it behaved beautifully). And the invisible zipper is very invisible. I'm still not sure if I totally like it, though. Mainly because it doesn't go with my cat tights!! Phooey. Also, it looks better much shorter than I originally made it, so I had to put the hem up about a zillion inches (I intended to have no hem, and used the fabric edge as the bottom). Fortunately, stitches just sort of dissappear into it, so even that looks fine. But I'm sad that it doesn't look good with the cat tights, and I can't really figure out what it does look good with (tops, etc.), other than legs. It's really comfortable and soft, though. And I have lots of fabric left over for a scarf.

Also finished my nano's night suit. Red vinyl screen and clickwheel for night vision in Tango, pale blue pajamas-colored felt with yellow tinges (like the purple stuff, it's not a solid color), pale yellow stitching, and cherry red stars. I'll scan it (tomorrow if I have time), but I should go to bed since we're taking the Gingers to Nancy's tomorrow. Hand sewing (screen, clickwheel, stars and velcro) is much more relaxing/enjoyable than machine sewing.

Clear clear night, after the hard rain on my windowpane this morning (I dreamt about washing my hair on a train). The stars were so clear and bright. Snuck in our last Bweel's visit of the year (my idea!), which was just luck, because while we were there we found out that they close on Columbus Day and don't open again until Memorial. It was a great Bweel's (they have good soups!) although as usual my coffee was not great, despite their claims about being the best coffee anywhere, ever (or something completely false like that). I guess they've never been to Kona. Driving home from the airport, I was singing and playing very loudly, "DOWN the street the dogs are barkin' when the day is gettin' dark. As the night comes in a-fallin', the dogs will lose their bark. An' the silent night will shatter from the sounds inside my mind, as I'm one too many mornings and a thousand miles... BEHIND." ******* fantastic.

Okay, I bought the persian lamb (aka "shorthaired poodle") stuff, but not without much trepidation. The weave of the fabric is looser than I thought, so it's not that solid if you hold it up to the light. But, as the fabric store old lady suggested, I can always wear a slip. When she asked me what I was going to make out of it, I hesitated, then admitted, "A skirt." I thought she'd think that was crazy, but she didn't. She thought it would make a beautiful skirt. We shall see. It might be a disaster, but I guess it's worth it to find out. I also got some Tango cushion-colored felt, from the clearance section! It really is the colors of Tango's cushion. Both of them. And it looks great with red.

Dean says my new tights look like the Cat in the Hat. (Or I look like the Cat in the Hat wearing them; I'm not sure which. But he meant it in a good way, I think.) When I mentioned this to Maura at the Parlin airport, she said, "Sounds like him!" Then I clarified, "No, I meant my Dean," and she cracked up. Maura recognized Dean's voice over the radio. My Dean, not hers.

I like my new cat tights a lot. They're ultra-comfortable, and warm. But I want more colors. (Yes, they are horizontally striped, but no, they are not red. They're two shades of greyish blue.) It's also pretty hard to figure out what matches them. As we were flying home, I kept fantasizing about a skirt I could make to wear with them. I was picturing that black persian lamb-ish looking fleece, although that's kind of crazy. (I think they call it poodle fleece at the fabric store.) My eyes are all tired and itchy. I'm trying to listento Telephonetime Radio Hour, but my brain's too wooly. I really want a pink grapefruit, but I don't have any.

Someone wants to buy the Gs house! Someone who's in love with the house, no less.

I realised what cherry red stars are, really. Airplane lights.

underneath the moon and starsI've just been cutting things out with scissors again. Tiny felt stars, that's what they are. Cherry red, natch. I'm very fond of cherry red stars. Very. Whether they'll be useable on a nano suit or not, I don't know, but I like them regardless.

What color sky do cherry red stars dance on?
They look good on white, but skys aren't white, unless it's snowing. And when it's snowing you can't see the stars.

My transparent red vinyl works fantastically well. So much so, I seared my eyeballs looking at the bare screen afterwards, testing.

Okay, I despise Joann Fabric with every fibre of my being (well, maybe not that strongly, but I hate them), but, man... they have transparent red vinyl! And they let you buy any amount. The minimum width limit is one inch. I got about three or four inches. Night vision! Still, Joann is a wasteland.

I ran into Susie again today, for the second time in my life! We were both going to the consignment store at the exact same time. And we both had enough time to stop at Starbucks afterwards and talk a little while, so we did. It was great! D.B.G. and Marshmallow Guy were on duty. Susie told D.B.G. she would have a cappuccino too, but "not as dry as hers." Ha! :-)

This morning right before I woke up, I had a Bob dream. It's sort of embarrassing, but I did not make this up--this was my actual dream. I have no idea what inspired it, since I wasn't even listening to Bob last night. In the dream, I was at a restaurant where Bob was giving a concert. The band had a little stage set up in in front, but Bob wandered around between the tables holding a cordless microphone. There were actually two rooms in the place, and I was sitting alone at a tiny table right next to the doorway between the two.

Bob started singing an acoustic opener cover song, and I recognised it right away because it was a Herman's Hermits song (I think it was "I'm Into Something Good"). Of course, Bob was doing it in his own way (Bob's current band style), so it didn't resemble the H.H. version very much at all. It was totally great (swinging, with his rusted growl) and I immediately thought "I wish I was recording this!" but since the song had already started, it was too late. I didn't have anything good to record with anyway, just Zi. I hoped a bootlegger with good equipment was there.

Anyway, Bob's version was fantastic, and I was smiling all over, staring up at him with big big eyes as he moved around the room singing. He was totally cool. He wandered into the next room (the concert wasn't even supposed to be in that room) and picked up some weird stuff including a wrench and some small parts like nuts and bolts and picture hangers and things, then came back into the concert room and set the wrench and stuff down on two tables near mine, still singing the song all the while, just being weird and cool Bob.

He was wearing yellow dog colored corduroy pants (really soft ones, with the ribs worn smooth in places) and a casual western shirt. It was warm in the place, so he took the shirt off (he had a black t-shirt on under it) and hung it on the door handle of the door next to my table. As he did so, he noticed me, and said, "I love your hair" in that sort of high, nasally smoky Themetime voice he uses. Blushing, I said, "Thank you!" thinking it was really funny that Bob Dylan said the exact same thing to me that people always say. Ha!!! Maybe the meaning of this dream is that I need a haircut. When I got up, I called up John's and signed up for one tomorrow.
