Wow. The new camera takes good pictures. Beautiful trees on the way to Jaffrey. They reminded me of moldy cauliflower. So nice and clear and bright today, in spades. Total good thing we went to Kimball today, too, because they had a sign saying they're CLOSED for the season beginning on the 9th!! (Columbus Day.) No more lobster rolls until April. :-( :-( I guess this means I can't go to Kimball for my birthday. I don't know if it really was or not, but my lobster roll seemed eXtra good... more lobstery tasting. I mean more sea creaturey. Iodine or something. That taste about lobster that puts some people off. It was fantastic. I kept whimpering while eating it. The Night Has 1,000 Eyes. Got some warm things at L&T on the way back. Mmm.

I'll post some more photos soon, but for now here's the coolest (just because DWP looks so mysterious and shadowy, in his great new hat that I picked out).

P.S. Chrome & manganese! Did Watertime Radio Hour set a new record for songs that Dylan himself actually covered and/or paid tribute to?? (Cool Water, High Water Everywhere Part 1, I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water, Grand Coulee Dam...) It seemed like it. "Saltwater's the cure for everything." And he mentioned Dennis Wilson.

Wow!! (I said that out loud.) Guess what Bob mentioned on the new Themetime?? Sea cucumbers!!

Yesterday I visited (avec Dean) a new branch of Starbucks I'd never been to before: North Haven. Aka Frank's Branch. It was pretty nice (they didn't even want to make me a for-here cappuccino because they didn't have the proper cup clean... finally I convinced them a latte cup would be all right) and they had the cute new Drink Illustration cards already, so I snagged one. As of today, they still don't have them at Rocky. (Haven't seen Coffee As Art at all yet.)

Happy birthday to my favorite ALB reader! It's October 4th and it's 80° out. Friday's supposed to be back to 60. I sat out on the back steps eating my salty oatmeal, and right before I came in, I put my bare feet on the bottom step, which is a concrete slab (the rest of the steps are wooden deck steps). I guess I'd never done that before in my back step oatmeal eating in the sun sessions, because it was a very distinct sensation that instantly flashed me back to summers at the lake when I was a little girl. It felt just like the concrete dock (which isn't there anymore). Cooler than the surrounding surfaces, hard, slightly rough. Mostly the particular coolness. I started thinking about feeding bread to the bluegills and swimming every day.

Last night I had a dream that Smead and Mead were destroyed (or, at least, had all their fronds ripped off) by some local children and/or dog(s). I was highly upset. But they are fine, and Mead's still growing her insanely late-season fronds. (All two of them.)

Wow. I like our new camera. (And I didn't even read the manual yet.)

Tall dry cappuccino, served to me in a grande cup. "That was fantastic... it was like a big cup full of FOAM." We both said foam at the same time. And then she added, "I'm glad you enjoyed it." Does Starbucks have spies? Dean was just saying to me yesterday that I should go in and order a "tall dry." (Tall dry what? Just a tall dry.) I got tomatoes at the Suder Store and pretended it was summer. It's their last week of operation before closing for the season!!

While Dean was at the Rules just now, I made a pair of leg warmers, and they are exquisite. (I won't even get into how appalled my Past Self, circa early 1980s, would be if she knew I was wearing leg warmers.) I ripped the sleeves off an old black sweater (yes, a cashmere one, but it's too big on me and I never wear it) and very carefully and neatly sewed each one to a piece of elastic that I first sewed in a circle the circumference of the spot below my knee. The top of the sleeve was a little bit wider than the elastic, so I stretched the elastic as I went along, and it came out nice and even. Then I turned the raw edge under the other edge of the elastic and did the same thing again, so there's a nice straight stitch along each edge, and all the elastic and the raw edges of the arm are concealed and protected inside. The cuff of the sleeve goes on the foot end, and it's perfect as is. They look amazing and are insanely soft and warm. And just the right size, too. I am pleased x 1,000. It looks great with my new skirt. What's with this run of successful sewing projects lately??

For a skirt that I wasn't even sure if I liked, I sure am wearing the lamb nonstop. I can't seem to take it off.

I invented a new dessert-ish thing that's insanely good. It's like a slackyman's crisp (inspired by Nancy's great crisps at Nancy's Airfield Cafe). You just get some blueberries from your frozen blueberry stockpile (fresh apples cut into pieces also work fine), layer them several times in a custard cup with dry oatmeal and sprinklings of cinnamon-and-sugar, put some plastic wrap on top, and stick it in the microwave for two minutes. When it comes out, it's transformed into a much-diminished, fragrant, steaming sweet concentrate, a thick deep purple glop. The blueberries have imploded and the oatmeal has cooked in their juices, and it tastes wonderful, even without ice cream on top (since I don't have any). The best part is, eating it turns your lips blue.

Yesterday when I was reading the checklist on the plane, the M thought ammeter = anteater. Perfect!!
