What is wrong with me? I was eating a pear just now (yes, really) and I had the thought, "This pear is good, but it would be better if it were a little riper." What the heck?? On the other hand, I've been eating raw cranberries recently, so maybe the ol' Laura tastebuds are still intact after all.

That reminds me: I saw this card at the store today and thought it was rather apt.

Meanwhile, Dean didn't even realize I was wearing a new pair of pyjama bottoms because they look so ALB-ish. They were clearly made for me. If I go over and lie on my chaise, I'll probably disappear.

Got up so early this morning that the Friendly Guy was actually on duty when I went in to Rocky. He informed me that they secretly do have the new cards in the back room, but just haven't put them out yet. (I assume because they have a million old cards they need to get rid of first?) We both agree the new hand-drawn one is great. (I snagged the other one at Corbins this weekend.) The F.G. also thinks I'm so oofy that I ought to employ a personal barista (and that it ought to be him). Yeah, right.

Most amazing Uptown Consignment find ever: another instance of my favourite pants (also from U.C., of course, but bought several years ago), in my size, and just in time because my old ones are becoming scarily thin and I fear wearing them. It's awful when you can't don your favourite pants. The new instance of my pants isn't the same color as the original (they're grey instead of cream), so that's unfortunate, but they look brand new, whereas my favs were a bit thin even when I bought them (they're very soft pinwale corduroy, so it's not surprising), so all in all I can't believe my good fortune. I'm sure these pants are completely out of print, and I've never seen another pair, in any size, anywhere, ever. It sure pays to be diligent and visit U.C. often. Oh and I would have been willing to pay lots for a new pair of my fav pants, but they were only $6.

I tried a new variation on my slackyman's crisp mixture: cranberries (fresh ones) mixed in with the blues. It's good.

failed attempt to photograph the skirtGah. My shoulders have been driving me crazy. I'm all twitchy, and I can't turn my neck all the way. It took me ages to fall asleep last night. But, I made another new skirt! It's kind of a tease because it's a really lightweight summer skirt and it's much too cold to wear it now, but I was a slack and never did it during the actual hot weather. However, I can bring it to Hawaii! The fabric is recycled from a dress I bought really cheap at the consignment store (I even used Zi to remember the date when it was going to be marked down--my M would be proud!). It was an extra-large dress in the special plus-sizes section, so there was plenty of fabric, and the material is an absolutely great red and white retro-looking print, very cool and breezy feeling.

I made it using my standard invented-by-me skirt pattern, but shorter (same length as my short-haired poodle texture one) and with the zipper in the back instead of on the side, because the dress had a long zipper down the back so there wasn't a big enough complete piece to make the back out of an unbroken piece of fabric. So instead of two pieces, it's three: one for the front, and two mirror-pieces in the back with a zipper and seam down the center back. I really like it--it hangs well and all the seams are nearly invisible! Maybe I should make the zipper-in-the-back style again even if I don't need to (depending on the print). Also part of the reason it looks good is that I cheated and used the hem from the original dress instead of doing my own. Heh.

a Jaffrey treeForgot to specify, we flew over the Berkshires on the way to Jaffrey (NH) yesterday (not the normal route), so that's why the trees were extra-nice. Flew to Nancy's (in Stow, MA) today, and it wasn't nearly as colorful from above. There were some gorgeous trees on the ground right near Nancy's, though. Also, saw a corn maze (I wrote "corn maize" in my notebook by mistake--ha!) near the Putnam VOR, which looked really cool from the air. We flew over the lake on the way home and I took a few photos. Tried to fly over our land, but it's invisible. Even with the GPS, we circled and circled and couldn't find it. Stealth land!

Here are some more photos from yesterday and today: 1) fall color from the air, on the way to Jaffrey (these were some pretty lakes near the CT-MA line, I think), 2) good old Silver Ranch, the airport in Jaffrey (notice the cool silver paint!) (and the limp windsock, = nice and calm) (there is a real horse ranch across the street), 3) Dean standing in front of the Kimball Farm sign (I love this photo because Dean looks so cool in his new hat), 4) some of the blazing trees today near the Minute Man airport in Stow, 5) me standing in front of Nancy's Airfield Cafe in Stow (wearing my ultra-warm fleece skirt that I made a month ago).
