Things I'm going to do this weekend:
1) Not blow away
2) Finish Hawaii blogs (I'm all the way up to the tranfer from the Big Island to Kauai, illustrations-wise!)
3) Put away Christmas tree (since there are no decorations on it, this'll be pretty easy)
4) Assist Dean in making arm-mounted dive slate (idea invented while in Hawaii, and needs to be implemented to bring to St. John)

We went to China Pan for lunch and I was obsessed with the incredibly cute dragon picture on the new placemats. (I especially like his feet and the look on his face. Also his hair.) I surreptitiously ripped mine out and brought it home. I got a very false fortune: "Your mentality is alert, practical and analytical." Actually I guess that's kind of true in real life.

Metromint water has two new flavors! Not that I've actually seen them yet.

My fingers are still tingly. Yes. I did query Dr. S. about them yesterday, and she 1) gave me an EKG (which was perfectly fine, as expected), 2) told me to eat ibuprofen (on the theory something swollen is pressing against the finger nerves in my neck/shoulder), 3) gave me a referral to an orthosomething doctor. But the ortho dude can't see me until Tuesday. Hopefully my fingers will not still be tingling on Tuesday. But maybe they will be.

It's snowing right now. Sort of. The only thing it's accumulating on is my hair.

I really, really, really like these new pants. Unfortunately, there are no more to be had. Anywhere! Despite the best efforts of kindly salespeople with computers and phones. At least I got the last two pairs in the whole wide world, yesterday.

My neck really hurts, so that's kind of exhausting. I don't really feel like talking/writing. But I'm on a reading binge. I read two entire books from start to finish last night. Well, they were both graphic novels, but still.

Dean doesn't like the freeze dried mangosteen, and he doesn't think they taste like cheeze puffs. But he says he can see where I'm coming from, at least.

At Rocky today, the barista wrote "dry cap" on my cup (using pencil). Nothing weird about that, other than the fact that it was a for-here cup. It was kind of cute.

I just tried the freeze dried mangosteen ("ingredients: mangosteen"). It tastes nothing like lychee, fortunately. Actually, what it reminds me of most is those orange cheese puff balls David used to eat, or possibly Smartfood popcorn. Except it's sweeter (but not in a cloying way). It's extremely tasty, in fact. And no, I'm not insane/hallucinating, I don't think (not re: the taste of freeze-dried mangosteen, at least). But I'll double-check with Dean to make sure. And no, fresh mangosteen does not taste anything like cheese puff balls.

I had to hang around at the VW dealership for a couple of hours today while they gave my Beag its checkup. Luckily I was pretty well entertained. On the way home I stopped at the Glastonbury Goodwill store to look at the books, and I did a huge double-take (a real one!) when I saw Dee Scarr's Coral's Reef on the shelf. I have all Dee Scarr's books except that one (in fact, part of my entertainment at the VW dealership was The Gentle Sea), and I've even looked for it on eBay (which is where I found the other two). I also snagged a Golden Guide for my collection.

It's Mangosteen Monday. Not only did I run into (not quite literally, fortunately) a giant display of Snake Oil Mangosteen Puree at Wild Oats (why the stuff is red is beyond me... mangosteen flesh is white, so it's clearly mostly something-other-than-'steen), I encountered a second giant display near the checkout at Trader Joe's. No, I didn't buy any snake oil (the stuff is $19.99 per bottle, or something crazy like that!) but I did buy the Trader Joe product, freeze dried mangosteen in a bag. It was not obscenely expensive (although it was pretty silly), so of course I had to. It's mangosteen! Isn't it a little odd that I've been obsessed with mangosteen for years, and now that I've actually eaten it fresh, weird mangosteen products are appearing everywhere?

The checkout guy said the dried stuff tastes like lychee. *shudder* I hope not. Mangosteen tastes nothing like lychee! It probably does, though. I wouldn't be surprised. (Lychee is vile.)

Anyway, Oats was much better today, thanks in part to the nifty little cart I used. It holds those baskets you carry on your arm, so it's really tiny and easy to maneuver through the obstacle course aisles, but you don't kill your arm carrying 15 bottles of Metromint Water (normal behavior for me). And it's double-decker, so it holds two baskets. The wheels were real smooooth. My car's wheels were very smooth today, too. Misty rainy day, with nice acoustics. My fingers are still all tingly. I feel like I've been petting jellyfish.

Finished this today. (It's a little wacky-looking, but very happy and nice to hold.) It was somewhat bizarre doing all that hand-stitching with tingling fingers, but not too bad. The flowers are supposed to be hibiscus, by the way. And the "tongue" parts of the flowers are separate pieces (sewn on top) so they're slightly more 3D. The back fastens down with two little red velco circles.

I got a pinched nerve for my birthday last night. At first I liked it, because it's a cool sensation (the fingers of my left hand are all tingly and slightly numb... it's kind of electrical, kind of pins-and-needles-y, minus the part where it starts to "wake up" and hurts). I didn't expect it to last this long, though. And the pain radiating down my shoulder from my neck to my upper arm is not exactly the funnest. But other than that, I had a really great birthday night.
