I've been really reclusing all week. Just, reading, staying home as much as possible, sort of just being very insular. I did go to Rocky three times and each time they seemed extra concerned about me liking my drink. Maybe it was just my imagination. I'm halfway to nicknaming one of the new guys the Hopeful Guy because he keeps saying, "I hope you like it..." and "I hope there's enough foam..." and stuff like that. I tried to provide lots of positive feedback and reinforcement. I still feel semi- All Wrong at Rocky lately, though. The store just doesn't feel the same anymore. Dean says these things go in cycles and he's probably right. But my natural response is to withdraw and avoid.

Anyway, instead of going out I've been working on stuff like this video of the flight we made in Hawaii. We rented a Cessna from Hawaii Flight Academy at the Kona airport and flew up to Waimea and along the insanely steep cliffs and valleys of the Hamakua Coast (these were really incredible to see, and there's no way to get a look at them by car), then back along the Kohala coast where we ID'ed all our favorite beaches and snorkel/scuba spots from the air. We were amazed to see famous beaches like Hapuna and Mauna Kea completely empty at 11:00 a.m. and wondered what the heck was going on. Afterwards, we found out that all the beaches on the island were closed due to a tsunami warning because of an earthquake in Japan that just so happened to coincide with the day of our flight! It's very bizarre and cool to see them deserted. I mostly made this video to use in my Flighty Flyer entry about our flight, but I'll post it here, too. If you want to see the details better, there's a larger view on YouTube. It gives you a pretty good idea of what (part of) the Big Island looks like, with all the beautiful desolate black lava, green ranchland of Waimea, awesome North Shore topography, and sunny turquoise reefs.

Pacific Aviation at the Stewart airport is officially the nicest ever. The airport's General Manager called us on the phone today and left a voicemail apologizing for the restaurant being closed early on Saturday and promised a free lunch for both of us next time we come! (!!) What the heck, and wow. Their being closed was totally no big deal--everyone was super nice and they kept offering us cold sandwiches and fresh coffee, and Rick's in Orange County was two inches away anyway, so we didn't even care. We certainly didn't act like we were the least bit upset about it. We don't even know how she figured out our phone number--she must've put some effort into it, that's for sure. Very, very impressive.

Here's my video from our home airport on Saturday. :-)
