I got CORN at the Suder Store! And more tomatoes, natch. And local raspberries! I stuffed some in my mouth and they were sunny-warm and tasted of summer at Grandma Whaples'. I've never made corn on the cob before in my life. It's true. Of course, I've had it loads of times, but I've never bought it or made it myself. I had to break out the lobster-pot! (Not sure if I've ever used that, either...)
P.S. It was good.

1) The rumours about Draghi's not having any more Rusczyk blueberries are 100% true. I was nearby, so I checked just to make sure it wasn't temporary, or any glimmer-of-hope thing like that. 2) To help ameliorate the terrible blow that = no more Rusczyk, Lyman's peaches are really great! I got another batch yesterday, and in the process helped out a fellow no-sense-of-direction person who'd managed to find her way to Lyman's but who had no idea how to get back to Rt. 91. I told her I had no idea either, but my GPS Guy did, so she could just follow me! 3) Whapley Road is really, really skinny. 4) My Guy pronounces Whapley wrong! :-( It's WAY, Guy, not Wop!!! 5) My pinata is 100% done except for the legs, and I bought rubber cement for them today.

Pretty pretty gauzy layers of cloud, like the softest grey sweater.
I'm tired now. Early to rise! We flew to SUNNY MAINE. It was rainy and cold here, but not in sunny Maine! Sunny Maine was warm and pretty, and we flew over Lake Winnipesaukee on the way, but did not land on Alton Bay since it wasn't frozen. Oxford Aviation, the airplane repainting/refinishing experts, were nice and very experty, and, yes, MUD, we got to look at actual paint chips! Tango is going to be two-tone Black and Flying Beige (a vintage car-ish warm cream that matches his interior leather). We were even able to reserve the perfect time to take him in (last week of October).
One of the guys gave us a ride in his van to The Lost Gull for lunch, and, although Dean had to order a baked potato, cole slaw, and onion rings (the only vegetarian food they had), I had an incredible lobster roll. Very, very simple and humble looking, on the small side, presented in a cardboard hot dog holder and wrapped in foil. But the taste! WOW. I was not expecting much, but I was impressed: a perfect buttered & toasted New England style roll and amazing ultra-fresh tasting lobster with no fillers, just meat and lighthanded mayo with a sprinkling of paprika on top, which seemed to be more for color than anything else. No lettuce or celery, no tomato, nothing whatever that detracted or distracted from the lobster. It competes with Kimball (!) but the two have very different lobster tastes. Lost Gull's lobster is much whiter and softer; Kimball's is pinker and firmer, more intense. (I think the key is that Kimball uses claws and Gull doesn't.) Lost Gull's tastes very fresh and very, very good. I don't know which is better! (But I didn't moan when I ate it like I do with Kimball's.)
Note for future reference: I got into a discussion about lobster rolls with the guy who gave us the ride when he walked with me over to the gas station next door so I could get a coffee at the in-house Dunkin' Donuts while Dean waited for our food at Lost Gull. (Dean forgot to give me money for the coffee, and the guy wouldn't let us pay him back! It was only $1.50, but that was still awfully nice.) He agreed wholeheartedly about New England style rolls being vital, and recommended Mac's Seafood in Auburn as having the very best local lobster rolls. He seemed to know his lobster rolls, so this could be a good tip!
I had a huge craving for Modern Times on the way to the airport this morning, which was really weird because I never listen to Modern Times (and I didn't have it with me, so I couldn't). But I played part of Weeping Willow and it was insanely good. Especially "Cross the Green Mountain," "Things Have Changed," and "Not Dark Yet." I was very, very in the mood for that Bob. Maybe because it was rainy and chilly and sleepy and I was thinking about "I'm Not There."

Sunny Maine!

Dreadful, just dreadful! Susie informs me that Draghi's has no more Rusczyk blueberries, and that the Draghi lady said she thought Rusczyk might be done for this year!! Instead, they have Rose's! (!!) Good thing I bought two containers, but it looks like bad news for getting more on Thursday. :-(
I could barely work up the willpower to step foot outside today (no, not because of the Rusczyk blueberries, but because it's overcast and COLD and feels like SEPTEMBER... I am convinced it IS September!!). Finally I did, and my eyes kept hazing over in a state of wonkiness, so I was constantly blinking, trying to see. I couldn't fully wake up and I needed something warm, so I actually went to Rocky Starbucks (!), and, much to my lifting-of-heart, Marshmallow Guy's car was in the parking lot, AND he was actually ON DUTY and BARISTA-ing! Lucky, lucky me.
Marshmallow Guy: "Where have you been??" Me: "I just haven't been coming in as much." (pause, then, by way of explanation) "I miss the old store." Marshmallow Guy: "Gotcha."
Yeah, he knew what I was talking about. But! Today I got a lovely M.G. cappuccino with perfect foam, and even though the store atmosphere was blah, I was still very glad I stopped. And I woke up a little bit, even if my eyes do keep going fuzzy.
