It snowed all day, but now it stopped. It's deep but soft, and it was fun digging out my beag. Also, I made a snow angel in the driveway. It turned out very well. I Thursday'ed all day and also made a homemade Kona coffee with my French press (it wasn't too bad, but would've been a lot better if I had cream) and wrapped presents while listening to Buried Treasure. I LOVE wrapping!!! My back isn't entirely fond of it, though. Current Christmas Card Contest score: ZERO to three!!! And the three are mine! (Yeah, I know it won't last.)

My whole tree is very demented-looking this year, and I love it. I keep adding more ornaments in a very haphazard fashion, with strange groupings and unusual centers-of-attention. There are still a lot of classic favorites I haven't even taken out of the box yet, while I've already given the best spots to hideous objects. It's great!
The only time I don't feel tired this week is 10 PM to 4 AM.
[Edit, 12:59: Took some photos!
1) Is she the sweetest clippy bird ever, or what?? I love this crazy girl. This is the bird I forgot I had... I got her right before Christmas, 2005, when I went to that Scandinavian store in Middletown with Susie. I only put about ten ornaments up last year, so she's hardly been on the tree at all, ever! Love love LOVE her.
2) Of course, for contrast there's always the MEAN clippy bird who gives you the evil eye as you walk by. (Warning: scary!!)
3) This was the second ornament I hung this year, and I'm getting insane amounts of pleasure out of staring at myself goofily in it whenever I walk by. My parents made me take this one when they moved last fall; it used to always hang on our family tree. It has a hand-painted snowman and says "Laura 1975" on it; I can still very vaguely remember when whoever painted it did it for me (at a church Christmas fair) because I thought that was so cool. (I was not quite four years old.) Oh, and yeah, the snowman part is supposed to face out, but, well...
4) This photo reminds me of a night dive. (Here's the flashlight version.) I don't think I've ever photographed this fish before; actually I don't think I've ever hung this fish before. I don't even remember where I bought this fish or when! I must've gotten it after Christmas in 2005, or maybe in 2006. Probably at the Tannenbaum Shoppe/Ursel's. I think it's supposed to be a Longnosed Butterflyfish, and it's quite beautiful!
5) Here's how the tree's looking so far. That completely ugly red silk ball with gold glitter-glue writing on it ("1977") is the first one I hung! It's right near the center of the tree, very prominent, and you can spot it by the white yarn it hangs from. That one's also a Whaples Family Tree ornament, obviously. I know it was mine, but I don't remember the history.]

So, yes, I've only put up about an eighth of my ornaments so far, and I'm too tired to even contemplate hanging the rest by this weekend, but I couldn't resist buying a new ornament today even though I already have way too many. It's a demented-looking orange felt octopus. How could I resist??
(He originally had a mouth, but it clearly didn't belong, so I took it off. He also had a boring/ugly white cord, and I replaced it with the nice soft blue one that matches his eyes. Oh, and yes, of course I went through all the octopi and chose the one with the most confused and wonked-out looking eyes. Of course!)

Here's what I've been working on since I got back from Hawaii, instead of my blog entries. Yeah, yeah... but blog entries are boring, and crown-of-thorns are wonderful. Now that it's finished I'll try to grindstone the 'ol nose back down, though.
(Visit the actual YouTube page if you want to read the big "About This Video" thingy I wrote. It's good, and I spent way too long on it, so You Really Should.) The video footage is from November 8th, at Ke'ei. Most of the photos are from Puako and Mahukona (aka "Sug") throughout the years (including this year), I think.

I hung all my clippy bird ornaments today (I think). Number of clippy bird ornaments on my tree: TWELVE. I even have one I didn't know about!
I also used my personalized SBUX card for the first time today. It was a big hit. Lots of ooohs and ahhhs and awwwws. Caitlyn and M.G. were both on duty, and the store was really quiet. It was nice.
I found a copy of What Is Natural? Coral Reef Crisis online, and I'm going to get it! V. exciting. It tells about why crown-of-thorns are NOT villains! (Or, at least, why not ALL crowns are villains. The ones in Hawaii aren't!) I wish I had a crown-of-thorns ornament.
Speaking of crowns, I lovethis art. Especially this piece, of course. But pretty much all of it. I don't know who you are, Lisa Studier, but I love you!

Eeek, my tree so far looks like it was decorated by an anti-linear brain. A spider on caffeine (scroll down to the bottom). I wasn't listening to '66 Bob, I swear (although I was listening to Themetime Head to Toe). I like it.
I'm Not There. Oh my God. WHY??????? Okay, I was slightly more coherent about it in the car, but that pretty much sums it up. Bob is not that messed up.
At first, I was pleasantly surprised and started to think it was actually going to be good, but then began the ever-widening interlocking anti-linear circles of What the Heck that just went on and on and on, until the point at which I reached forward toward the movie screen with both hands and tried to ring her skinny neck. That was after the ostrich-town Bob jumped the freight train and I thought the movie was at last going to end, but No! it still continued. Still!
'66 Bob = no. Just, no. I did like the first Bob, though--the one played by the little black boy. His depiction really captured it, I thought. Preacher Bob was good, too. But his appearance was so brief! (Maybe that's why I liked it.) Whereas, they kept you waiting for '66, but when she finally appeared she just Would Not Go Away! Every time you thought you'd seen the last of her, and they'd cut to the tedious boring Actor Bob (what the heck?) with the fake-Sara French wife, NOPE there'd be just one more polka-dotted chapped-lipped '66, with her Albert Grossman protector (liked him) hovering in the wings. Gah. And then a giraffe would walk by, and some weird circus/Civil War band would do a really good cover of "Goin' to Acapulco," sounding like they're about to croak/cry. (As one should whilst singing that song.)
The soundtrack was great. Really, really fantastic.
But, otherwise... why????? (A 79% ripe tomatometer rating?? 8.1 out of 10 at IMDb??? HOW?? I don't understand.)
(Okay, it was better than I expected, I guess. I thought I'd loathe it.)
