Aaaaaaaah!!! Final episode of Raffles = best thing EVER!!! Nonstop greatness through and through! I want to watch the whole series again from the beginning immediately!!! I can scarcely breathe.

Since my old Zi is going down, and the Treo doesn't have the same Note Pad app anymore, I need to forever preserve all my best hand written notes. They start in April 2005, I think. (Clearly this will be the best [ie., least sense-making to readers] and most anti-linear post ever.)

Here's what I did last night. The narration is from Themetime Radio Hour. :-)

Oooh, it was an 18" x 9" ventilator shaft, really. I knew it.

I love my new licence plate, procured for me by Dean yesterday. 362 WRL. Whirl! Clearly.

I need to work on my final week of Hawaii entries, don't I?

The dental hygenist thought I was a weirdo when I told her I brush my teeth with my left hand. Her: "I thought you were right handed." Me: "I am right handed. I just brush my teeth with my left hand." I didn't mention that I'm also left eared.

I keep thinking obsessively about Raffles today. It's TERRIBLE--we only have one episode left! I want endless Raffles. Endless.

Addendum, 2:32 AM: Just discovered a new Best Use Ever for sweet matcha. Stir it into plain kefir! Amazing. (Smeared lumpfish caviar is also the color of very concentrated wet matcha.) Oh and: the matcha bar is definitely my favorite Vosges chocolate. Second fav is Goji (aka SALT).

Just one thing: the color of mayhaw jelly (not in the jar, but out in a lump, with the light shining through it) is officially one of my top-five favorite colors in the whole world.

Also, it's really weird and cool how lumpfish caviar looks black, but when it gets smeared you find out it's secretly a strange absinthian shade of green.

That's two things, I guess.

all graphs by Dean!Happy New Year! It's time for everyone's favourite annual feature of ALB: our official Christmas Card Competition results! And guess what, I actually won fair and square this year. (In the Number of Cards part of the competition, at least.) Dean conceded that I can count the stevia tea man as my person (good, especially since when we were counting the cards and he got to that one, he asked, "Who's this??") but I agreed to not count Hunter. (I figured that would be strategic, since otherwise next year Dean could evilly get some guy from work to make each of his kids send a separate card, or something cheatful like that.)

Update: We just decided the official rule for who counts and who doesn't. Here it is: One card per couple and their dependent children. Very simple, and covers every permutation.

our New Year's Day Chinese takeout 2008 fortunesSo, Thomas counts, since he's not Robert's dependant, but Hunter doesn't, since he is David's. Physical location/household doesn't matter, so if Jan and June (sisters) lived together they would be each counted separately, as they are not a couple or each other's dependants. Likewise, if June lived with Diane (her mother), June would still count since she's not Diane's dependant anymore. However, if the pilot guy and his fiancee each sent us a separate card, only one would count, since they're a couple (even though they don't live in the same household).

Anyway, back to the results. On the stacked graph above, Hunter is represented in white, since he doesn't count (but he still gets invisible loyal nephew points for sending me a card!). My people sent 13 official cards and Dean's people sent 11. We got 2 joint cards this year (Kailua Storage Kings and Vic).

Slack RateAs usual, I did not fare so well on the Slack Front and was soundly defeated. As you'll recall, this is the count that charts cards received from the people I sent them out to. (Dean's people's slack percentage rose this year to 18% from 10%, but this actually only represents one additional slacker for him.)

Interestingly, my people's slack rate remained almost exactly consistent (35% this year, 37% last year), even though this statistic represents entirely different slackers. A certain two nieces of mine slacked this year, as did Robert and A.G.D., but others of my people stepped forward and came through (yay, David and Thomas!). Last year I wasn't allowed to count Diane's card because it was late (BUMMER!!) but it gets full points this year and had a really nice message, as well. I also got a card with a great Aunt Myrna letter this year (she was a slack last year because of Uncle Donald's illness).

Message RateThe Most Improved award this year goes to Dean's people on the Message Front, though. Last year a pathetic 38% of his dudes wrote a message on the card ( = something beyond just "Love, Blah and Blah"). This year, it was an impressive 82%, nearly as high as my people's Message Rate! (Most of my people wrote much longer and more personalized messages, but still.) Good job on the message front, Dean's people!

Happy 2008! (I thought it was 2008 all last year, for some reason.) Foods I ate for our two-person New Year's Eve party: caviar (LUMPfish), whipped cream cheese, water crackers (approved by H.M. the Queen kind), mayhaw jelly (called "mayhog" jelly by Dean) (best jelly EVER!) (Dean agreed about its incredibleness), Duplin champagne (fabulous!!) (rasp. flav, slightly), tiny cheese souffle (this is not in order) (the taste reminded me of cheese grits, classic New Year's food). Also, RAFFLES. 2nd-to-last episode. :-( It was GREAT. But he didn't jump overboard. I love dumbwaiters. I bet the one in the real story was much narrower. Oh, also, food: MATCHA BAR!!!! How could I forget. BEST best. Overmuch.

Someone other than Dean called me on my new Treo today! It was a wrong number, but it was still exciting.

I also:
1) Made Kona coffee (Fike Farms!) (the M gave me a little of theirs to take home) again with my new machine and it was GOOD.
2) Made an ALB-colored cozy for my new Treo out of fleece left over from my chaise cover. It's highly cozy, and it matches my good old custom calendar background (same one I used on Zi) perfectly. One side is bright pink and the other is bright orange.
3) Ate an entire shad (or, actually, an entire shad filet, so I guess that's half a shad).

I've been really itching to sew something recently, but I haven't had time until now. I got to use my new big rolly cutter board Diane gave me for Christmas! I want to make a new winter bag soon, but the Palma holder was very satisfying for now.

I'm still bordering-on-wheezy today, and my eyes feel wonky and scratchy. Just from having guests with a dog, yesterday! (The dog didn't come, just Dean's Gs.) Crazy.

I wish I could sleep for a couple of days.
