We stopped at a drive-through Starbucks (the one in Wethersfield) on the way to Brainard, and went through the actual drive though even though I was totally sure it would be impossible to get a dry cappuccino from a drive through. I figured it would likely not be much better inside, so we took a chance and did it anyway. They took a surprisingly long time to make it (I thought they'd just throw it together), and it was one of the best foams I have EVER had!!!! Simply amazing microfoam, velvety smooth, absolutely invisible bubbles. I couldn't believe it. When I looked at the cup I noticed that instead of putting a "D" or "Dry" in the options box, whoever labelled it wrote ":-)" Who made it??? Was it a barista I know (former Rocky person)?? It was SO good. I never ever go to that Starbucks, so I have no idea.

Then, right after I finished devouring my very last spoonful of perfect foam, we arrived at the hangar and Dean turned on the car radio, and "Positively 4th Street" was playing. Too unbelievable.

Heard in the air, flying away from Brainard:
Pilot on ground: Tower, you have a bald eagle over the helipad.
John: Clear to land.

No more witty quips or huge sighs on the ATIS, though, because John is retiring next week!!! :-(

Here's a photo I snapped after takeoff, the wide Connecticut River and Brainard Airport behind. You can see the hangars (ours is in the strip that's farthest away), and (very very tiny) the tower, beyond the runway and the two taxiways. We only have patches of snow, again.

It was 9° Fahrenheit at altitude on the way back from Parlin. Brrr. New Hampshire was so pretty, like a cake covered in snowy-white frosting. It was deep, too! The air smelled of woodstove smoke, and the paths were crusted over in ice. That's how New England is supposed to be! My pal Orion's out every time we fly home, right beyond my window, his belt twinkling in the blacky-black sky.

I keep thinking, repeatedly, that it's Friday today. I think it, realize it's false, and then think it again ten minutes later. Last night I thought I was going to dream about Jack McGee, but instead I dreamt that Bill Walton gave me a piece of birthday cake. What the heck.

1) I know I've said as much before, but sweet matcha + kefir really is the best-ever use for sweet matcha. It's like a matcha lassi, and what could be better than that? What it's got going for it: a) taste, natch, b) slight gritty texture, and, c) it's bright green!

2) I love how, when I take my Mido off for a while and then put it back on again, it feels cold on my arm. It's like it's been chilled. Then once it's on my arm for a short time, it warms to my body temperature and I can't notice it at all.

My eyes are being really sneaky today. They keep randomly going 100% blurry when I glance sideways, but when I shift them back forward again they pretend it never happened. It's kind of fun and surprising every time actually. What! Why can't I see? / Oh! Now I can.

I've finished typing in/writing/illustrating my whole Hawaii blog except the Black Water Dive (and accompanying night dive). I need to proofread it, though, and I don't really feel like it.

I wish I could draw. I'd draw deep sea creatures.
It's 11:44. That's a pretty time. Black and sparkly.

We went to the pizza joint that's two inches away, because when we tried to go to Luna we couldn't get in the parking lot. Every entrance was blocked off by giant fire trucks! Then I noticed Luna was totally dark anyway. I wonder what was going on?? We couldn't tell if the fire trucks were for Luna or McDonald's, or what. Anyway, it was scary going to the local place but we did it as an adventure. I got my usual Luna toppings (spinach and anchovies) and Dean got eggplant and olives. A risky move, since (according to Dean) the true test of an Italian place is their eggplant, but he said it was good. Anyway, the toppings were good, but the crust wasn't as good as Luna's. It was a cute little place, though, and the staff was really nice. The pizza guy gave me the remote control for the TV so we wouldn't have to watch the default channel, and I tuned in a Deep Sea Creatures show with sequined squid, bioluminescent blobs, gulper eels and fangtoothed anglerfish.

We went to ION yesterday (usually we go on Fridays) and it was really crowded! As usual for the past several months, O'Rourke was there. (He's guest chef-ing at ION while his diner is being rebuilt.) He's always sneaking/wandering out of the kitchen in his cool striped chef pants. Then I whisper to Dean all fangirlishly, "Look! There's O'Rourke!" Dean almost always misses him. I read online that O'Rourke's is reopening this Monday! No wonder he looks so bonny and blithe lately.
