Bulbs, Part One! We're planting tulips again this fall, after many years of slack. Today we got the bed all ready, including trimming the out of control bush that took over everything (I got to help trim for once, and not just snipsel-eat; it was fun!). Dean edged and I collected up all the clumps to get rid of, first inspecting each one for worms so I wouldn't throw out any worms by accident. I saved lots of worms. I also kept warning the worms to vacate on their own. Must be nice to worms! Tomorrow we do the digging, soil amending, planting, and mulching. I hope I got the right amount of bulbs.
There was the coolest surprise, when we went out to do the bed. Portulacas!!! I haven't planted any in years; a little clump just came up by themselves somehow, all happy and orange. Portulacas in October! I had to pull them up, but frost would've gotten them soon, anyway. Today the temperature was 100% perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect. These past few days have been amazing. Mid-70s, sun, just nice.

Flying low through the hills of Barkhamsted, "Lay, Lady, Lay" on XM, deep blue reservoir 500 feet below us, green and orange and yellow all around. It feels fast at this altitude. It's glorious! So many shades of orange. Start of the Berkshires now. Feels like I could reach out and touch all those pretty heads.

Listening to Tell Tale Signs makes me feel very calm/relaxed and absorbed. Like "Huck's Tune," movin' 'long, ridin' in style. (That doesn't make sense unless you listen to "Huck's Tune," but it makes me feel like "Huck's Tune.")
It was 78° out today, according to my Beaglometer. That was on the Ber, so it was probably slightly exaggerated, but it was nice out. Sun and blazing red trees and rich green, and Bob. All surrounded by circling mellow well-worn leather Bob.
We tried out our new scuba gear at the Cheshire pool tonight and it was fun! It was super warm, because the C.P. has a huge puffy white inflatable cover thingy over it in the winter. Every time we've been to the C.P. it's been unseasonably warm outside, too. (The other time was January '06, and it was in the 60s and people were outside in shorts.) My new setup is nice and streamlined, with the short hoses and everything fastened up nice. It felt great. I was really comfortable diving. It made me want to go on a real dive! Afterwards I felt good, almost like after an actual dive in the ocean. Tired and relaxed and alert and oxygenated.

I really like it (much better than Modern Times). Beautiful, daze inducing. Just driving, listening listening listening. "Marchin' to the City" reminds me of "Get Your Rocks Off" from the basement tapes. Will comment more later.
Got two more Golden Guides at the Book Bower, a nice new used bookstore in the basement level of Main Street Market, near the former ION Market. Butterflies & Moths and Insects. And talked to the store lady. Also finally visited the new ION Market. I don't like it! I want the old one back.

How to Shrinkify A Sweater (Notes for Future Self): - Zig-zag stitch in full zag mode - Stitch length = 1 - Tension = 3 - It takes a lot of thread, so make sure you have enough on the bobbin! - For a sweater two sizes too big on me, I sewed all along the edge (body and arms) one inch in from former edge (approximated how much smaller to make it by turning it inside out and laying my Milo in Maine cod shirt on top, then measuring how much smaller the Milo was). Leaving the excess fabric (newly giant seams) on the inside doesn't show at all, although it feels slightly lumpy under the arms. (Starting with a sweater only one size too big would probably eliminate the lump factor.) Body fits well and I love the exxxxcellent skinny snuggly arms!
It was chilly today. I was massively craving arm warmers. The new Bob CD set comes out tomorrow. Must remember to buy.

No more Womacks! I finished the whole Horrible Series. The last book was not my favorite, but I plowed on, and its ending chapters bring a very satisfying conclusion to Womackworld. My favorite characters in the Dryco series are definitely 1) Lola, B) Jake, and 3) Iz. Nice final appearance by Jake in G,G,G.
