Retraction! We had Tango restaurant's raspberry creme brulée for the second time tonight (best creme brulée ever, possibly even best dessert ever), and the rasp layer in that is nice and tart, exactly like in the Cabot choc-rasp Greek yogurt! So I guess the yogurt flav really is rasp tasting after all, just not a typical raspberry.

My finger hurts. I think I injured it more badly than I originally thought. But at least that means I had a better reason to nearly faint than I originally thought!
I bought a birthday present for myself at Whole Foods. :-) It's the thing I was admiring before Christmas, except they don't have the gift sets anymore, so I had to piece one together myself. My fake one doesn't come with a spoon, but it's still pretty nice.
Also, Dean made me order more fishbone socks, and they arrived in today's mail! Now I have my brown/mauve pair, a new green/gold pair, and a second brown/mauve pair for my kanban! I have been wearing my original fish socks almost every day. (But I only let myself wear them with my boots; I have to take them off as soon as I come inside, so they won't get worn out.)
Cabot's new chocolate raspberry "Greek Style Yogurt" is ridiculously delicious. It doesn't even taste raspberry to me; it's nice and tart, like pomegranate or cherries (real ones, not the yucky sweet kind), and so intense and creamy. It's lowfat, but it has quite a bit of sugar so I'm not sure how "good for you" it actually is. But, as a Greek-style yogurt, it does have lots of protein. And it tastes like a dessert. A dessert for people who like creamy and tangy better than sweet.
I updated my Weird Foods I've Eaten list last night. (Added kidneys, buffalo tongue, deer tongue, and ackee & cod. And put Romanesco in the "especially want to try" section!)

I made matcha salt! (And put some on an egg.) It's soooooo green. I used Caymanian sea salt for the salt, since I didn't have any gray salt at the moment and the Caymanian salt is similar in texture. Now I just need a proper little container to keep it in.

Matcha salt?? Oh man, I've got to make this. I mean, what could be more perfect?
You know, I'm not really dreading my birthday at all this year. Weird.
Maybe a moonbeam To light the way when evening comes Hasn't a worry Don't care 'bout the cold outside Only a glad wish For a magic ride on wings of gold
Only a daydream Maybe a moonbeam Just a star bright Forever nightshade Mary goodnight
She don't want money Don't want rings or fancy things Only a star bright To shine behind big clouds of joy
Only a daydream Maybe a moonbeam Just a star bright Forever nightshade Mary goodnight

Obsessed obsessed. I've listened to "Forever Night Shade Mary" 22 26 times already (and counting). Also, I'm wearing for the first time my orange flowered lounge pants that Dean's mom bought me for Christmas (under my influence). I officially love them.
I tried to take a picture but it's hard to photograph your own pants while you're wearing them, so I did some in the mirror. Of course, I failed to neaten up the stuff in the background first (= two different bottles of Tortuga [why are they in my room???], a corner of my little orange "odd duck" backpack, some library books, a birthday present from my sister, and a can of Waitrose rhubarb, plus loads of colorful bookshelf books). I'm not sure which I like better: this one, or this one. I'm also wearing my new shawl-collar cardigan from Uptown Consignment (and listening to Forever Night Shade Mary on my iPod), of which I am quite enamored as well.
Oh, and I found this photo on the camera, from Sunday. I like it!

??! The Miracle Fruit guy just e-mailed me! (We attempted to order some over 7 months ago, and never heard hide nor hair until now!)
(I realize you can't hear hide and hair, but I still wanted to say that.)
I'll believe it when I see it.

New obsession: "Forever Night Shade Mary" from Themetime Night. (Yes, the Night episode was on the week before Election Day. I'm insanely behind on my Themetimes.)
It's one of those songs I knew I was going to love before I even heard it, just from the wordless thrumming backtune as Bob made his nightshade intro: "Most of these songs started out in the still of the night in David's kitchen, on a beaten-up 4-track recorder, and it sure sounds like it. And I mean that in the best possible sense. You folks who only listen to satellite radio don't remember the days of driving late at night and hearing radio stations weave in and out of tuning as you get out of range of their antennas. It can lend some songs a ghostly sound that can seldom be duplicated in the studio. I think they do a pretty good job here, though."

We had our 6-month dentist appointments today, and my usual hygienist wasn't in, so I had a sub. First she told me I have "happy teeth" (she meant to say healthy teeth), and then interrupted some scraping by exclaiming that it was really distracting constantly seeing my "luminous," "glowing" skin out of the corner of her eye. Then she went on and on about how I have the most incredible complexion (?!) and asked me what my secret is. I was like, "I don't know... I never thought my skin was that great," but she kept pressing me for beauty tips and said, "You could be a cover model, Laura." !!!? Of course I was ultra-flattered and smiling my head off, especially since my birthday is coming up next week, and you know what that means.

We're having an ice storm for Jan's birthday. Everything looks like it's made of glass. Beautiful. I slept really late and I feel all cured!

I've had big really difficult to wake up from dreams for the past three mornings in a row. Their one commonality was that they all had David in them.

I have the gigantic-est headache. I want to go to sleep so it'll finally go away, but I'm not sleepy. I read an entire book (it was a kid's book, only 186 pages) but that didn't help at all.

Gak. My head's still a bit not-right.
Posted at 8:34:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.
Good grief. So, I'm taking a shower and I accidentally knock over one of my shampoo bottles balanced on the little grab-bar thingy. This causes a domino effect, and multiple other shampoo bottles start falling over; I try to catch them all, and the flip-cap on one of them scrapes against the soft inside of my left pinky finger, cutting it. Fine, no big deal; I replace the bottles and continue my shower.
But now my pinky finger is bleeding. It's not a deep cut and barely even hurts, but it's bleeding. And I start to get lightheaded. I try to ignore it and continue soaping my hair (using said finger, as it's obviously perfectly fine) but the lightheadedness won't go away, so I step out of the shower to put on a band-aid and cover it up. I have a lot of trouble opening the band-aid package because I'm starting to get really dizzy and my vision's all hazy; finally I open it, but realize it's the wrong kind of band-aid, so I drop it to the floor and fumble around for another box.
This time I manage to apply the band-aid (kneeling on the bath-mat with my head down) but when I stand up, I hit my head on the open medicine cabinet door and half the items in the door fall out, raining down on me. (Luckily none of them broke.) At this point, I uttered an expletive (yes, me!), while simultaneously thinking how similar to a slap-stick comedy this all was, managed to pick up all the items (I think) and put them back in the door, then climbed back in the shower with my bandaged finger to continue my shower.
But no! Even though I can't see the blood anymore, I'm still practically fainting. I have to sit in the bathtub with the shower on, soaping up my hair, trying to keep my head lowered and my hand raised, ears ringing and purple-and-white sparkles swarming my brain. I just want, you know, to finish my shower, but whenever I try to stand up (to better wash the soap out of my hair), I nearly pass out, so I end up doing the rest of it in a recumbent position, waiting until finally I think it's safe to get out and stand again. I'm perfectly fine now. I think. (I do still feel slightly iffy.)
I guess that answers the question of whether I'm ridiculously affected by my own blood too. But I'm not usually, so it's all a big what the heck. I think there's something about a hand injury that makes it a lot worse somehow. Crazy.

The Chaos show was good today, because Professor Strogatz used the word "homuncului" and ate a romanesco! Dean and I both want one!!!
Oh and my favorite Christmas present that wasn't a Christmas present is my heirloom grapefruit knife! My mom told me to pick out one of theirs to take home, since they had two and almost never use them. We have been feasting on the best, heaviest, juiciest, Florida pink grapefruit ever, from Big W! Pink grapefruit are so incredibly beautiful.
