We're going to a wedding today! Yes, us. I'm going to wear Grandmother Whaples' dress again. :) Hopefully I will remember to get Dean to take a picture of me in it this time. I only have a couple from the anniversary party which show the top-half of it, but none that show the whole thing. I guess I should've specifically asked Dean to take one, but I was thinking more about making sure everything went well with the party than about getting pictures.

Oh and YES, I will write about the party. I really really will.

Heh. Okay, after I visited my blind lady this afternoon, I tried to take a skirt photo at Talbot's Petites (visited solely because they had a nice dressing room) using my Treo's camera, so the color is kind of bad. They're sort of dark and not that great, but they do show the skirt(ish).

1) Front view (wearing my new suede toast shoes!).
B) Side view (a little blurry, and my legs are cut off, but shows how the skirt falls in a cascade-y manner at the seam, which is my favorite feature).
3) Took this one accidentally (too close up) and it doesn't show my skirt, but I like it the best! (Shows the too-short sleeves on my sweater and the super-dark circles under my eyes!!)

I like my skirt a lot, but I do think it would be a good idea to get a little more of the fabric and at least try to make a waistband.

I finished my skirt and I love it, but the waistband proved impossible, in part because I don't have enough fabric left to properly make one (this was a .833 yard remnant!), so there isn't one, and it's reeeeeeally low-rise. Luckily, I have hips, so it doesn't fall off. I wouldn't tuck in my shirt anyway, so it's OK. It's the most comfortable skirt ever and fits so perfect! Once I got the proper needle, this was the easiest all-time skirt to make. I'll wear it tomorrow and try to take a picture. The fabric looks like this ----->

!!! I talked to Uncle Dick on the phone for at least half an hour... maybe 45 minutes. I did a pretty good job. My mother's brothers sure like to talk! We might visit the Uncles Dreher in Ohio in August. (!!)

I'm listening to music instead of a podcast while Thursday-ing today! And I'm addicted to "Cold Cold Ground" again. Other recent favs: "Standing in the Doorway," "Sycamore," "Sugar Town," "Come On Over," "Forever Night Shade Mary," "Red River Shore" (in the car), "What Is A Shooting Star?" (Singing Science Records!) and "Star of Wonder."

I think I'm a little mixed up about what season it is.

!!! I got a new kind of needle at the fabric store, and it made a HUGE difference. I was already using Ball Point needles (which you're supposed to employ when working with knit fabrics), but I tried a Stretch needle (good ol' Schmetz brand, which was the only brand that had them), and now I can sew a normal straight stitch, no problem! The needle package says they're for "highly elastic synthetic knitwear," so I guess that's the key.

I'm trying to make a knit skirt out of one of the remnants I got on Tuesday (modelled on my fav skirt from Honolua Wahine), and it would be really easy, but my sewing machine does not want to stitch on this fabric. The thread just won't stay in. I have no idea why not. However, after about ten zillion passes, putting in a new needle, and sewing with a stitch that makes no sense (zigzag that's turning out as a straight stitch because only one side will stay down), I managed to get it to stick together, and I really like it. It fits perfectly and is super-comfortable. I need to make some kind of waistband, though, and that's going to be difficult, with the crazy stitch sitch.

Geez, what a fun forecast:

At 1 PM...showers. Temperature around 61. At 3 PM...showers. Temperature around 62. At 5 PM...showers. Temperature around 62. Tonight: Showers in the evening...then rain after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
Right now? It's raining. I've been wanting to go to the library, but it sounds like today is best suited for staying home, Thursday-ing, and drinking Kona Mountain Cofeee. And sleeping, natch. So dark and grey. I've been very sleepy this week. I'm always a little withdrawn after spending time with family, I think. It's a protective thing. It's weird that the party, which Diane and I spent so much time planning, is over. I feel a little empty, I guess. (It's hard to tell.) That's why I feel like getting a book at the library. I slept in my arm warmers again. I love how they hug my arms.

I miss Chuck.

A dressing room is a good place to take a picture of your new arm warmers. (I love this pic.)

arm warmersFirst local produce of the year! $5 pile of strawberries at Harris Farm's stand on Twenty Rod Road. Random stumble-across, and I was only driving on that road because my Guy directed me there (Rocky Hill to the Jo-Ann on the Ber Turnpike, sneaky back way). They are INSANEly good.

I also got two cool pieces of fabric at Jo-Ann, also for $5. Remnants. But one was a remnant of the exact full-price fabric I was eyeing. Hopefully the piece'll be big enough.

It's pretty out today. Low 70s, slight breeze, fluffy blue sky. Perfect with my new taupe arm warmers. :-)

I slept with my new arm warmers on last night! My arms liked it.

I forgot to mention the big jolt! On the way to North Carolina, the flight was pretty smooth most of the time, but at one point we hit this giant bump of unexpected turbulence--a little cloud in the dark that just happened to have a mean kick! Just one bump, but it massively jerked me out of my seat (this is why you wear a lap belt on an airplane at all times!) and made the three-ring binder Dean keeps in the seat pocket on the back of his seat JUMP out and land on the floor, along with the airsick bags we keep back there in case a passenger needs one. Weirdly, all our luggage stayed put. I have a tiny red mark on my hip from where my bony hip bone clonked really hard against the metal buckle of my seat belt. Ha! It kept me in my seat, though.

Oh, also, my new Etsy arm warmers were invaluable on the flight.

My new new pair (taupe-colored) arrived today!

New York is bright!

We're home! We stopped in Newport News, VA for dinner on the way. The airport was on Bland Boulevard. Isn't that a terrible name for a road??? I love it! It sounds like something I'd make up. It sure would be awful to live on Bland Boulevard. Even worse than Roast Meat Hill Road, I think. ;-) We had a small meal at The Melting Pot, which we had tried to make a reservation at yesterday, but they only had an answering machine and never returned the phone call. We weren't even sure if they were in still in business. But they were, and they gave us a table, even though you usually need a rez there. Their cappuccino machine was broken, however (hahaha), and the pepper grinder spit out entire peppercorns into our fondue. Oddness in Newport News. Newport News is a weird name for a town, so no wonder.

The skies were really clear tonight! The lights of New York were bright and shiny. We read magazines and newspapers (including Dean) while flying along (he stopped when we got near NYC).

I loved this whole trip. It reminded me of our Grand Cayman Skytrip. I want to go on another Tango trip soon!

P.S. Here's Tango at RDU (Raleigh-Durham International Airport) with the big windowless Air Force jet pal he chatted with while we were away, and another big commercial jet taking off in the background. Tango makes lots of friends everywhere he goes.
P.P.S. I'll write about the party in a future entry.
