Night flight to Nancy's. Fuzzy full moon up above, golden light reflected in a lake below, gliding across as we fly by. So pretty.

I messed with the waistband on my chocolate brown skirt again. It's not foldy-over anymore. The foldy-over was really nice, but I decided it was a little too bulky with the fleece. Now it has a really narrow waistband that fits well but is barely stretchy, so I have to slither in. No more mods! Finished!
I love LOVE my new sewing machine.
It's probably time for me to start on my annual Actual Good Thing About Autumn list.
Okay. Let's see.
#1. Chocolate brown fleece #2. Wearing tights* (warm!) #3. Gorgeous clear skies (CAVU!) #4. Snuggly new shoes with fleecy lining #5. Snuggly new cardigans with extra-long sleeves #6. Bob's Christmas album comes out on October 13th!

Happy October, if you like that sort of thing!
I decided to make an anti-autumn-gloom (AAG!) bag. It will contain: a) felted wool upcycled from an Uptown Consignment sweater (or two) b) buttonholes! (because it's so fun and easy to make them on my new sewing machine) c) buttons (well, that follows), d) ORANGE. Also, hopefully, e) lining fabric that I already have lying around in my stash. If it's good enough for them, and if they go with it, I will use my extra-special pewter ocean buttons that Jan gave me for Christmas. (I have been thinking about the idea for this bag for a long time, but the time hasn't been right.)
I just modded my Maui Ocean Center t-shirt that I got for free when we did the shark dive (actually, they gave me a Shark Dive shirt, but it was a billion times too big, so I switched it for a soft little grey one with Maui Ocean Center embroidered on it with bright pink thread and a little raggedy-edged sea turtle cutout). I never wear it because 1) I didn't really like Maui that much, so it feels wrong to advertise it (although I did like the Ocean Center!), and, 2) although it fits well otherwise, the neck was way too strangley! I hate strangley-necked shirts. So I cut the neck off with my fabric scissors and made it a much better and more flattering shape. One million times more comfortable. It turned out perfectly. But then I finished the raw edge on the sewing machine with a very pro-looking stitch (matching bright pink thread!) and it turned into a lettuce edge! So now I have to pretend I wanted it that way. It looks pretty nice actually. It's like a serger stitch without having an actual serger!
Speaking of lettuce, Dean got some Beefeater Gin but I don't really think that's appropriate for a vegetarian. I told him he should've gotten Carroteater Gin.
[Edit: Hm, maybe it's not really a lettuce edge... it only lettuces up when it's not taut, but since my shoulders are scrunched up all the time, that's often.]

I bought a quince today! And a small hunk of Kunik. (Lucky for me, the usual scary cheesemonger wasn't there, and the sub cheesemonger was much less intimidating.) Syd asked me, "Are you here for Tasty Tuesday?" I cracked up and said, "No! What's Tasty Tuesday?" Apparently, lots of people come in just for Tasty Tuesday. Not me. Tasty Tuesday is avoidable in my book. Oh yeah, and very very excitingness, I might be getting some Weleda Green Toothpaste! The Whole Body girl said she could order some for me. I have been really wanting to try Green Toothpaste, but no one carries it. I already have Pink and Salt, and got Calendula (orange) a week or two ago. Salt is the best of course, but the other varieties have their merits as well.
I'm reeeally tired tonight; not sure why.
Oh! I took a photo of my new skirt. NOT a mirror photo this time! I used the timer mode on the camera and stood in front of the front door. I had to balance the camera on the electric meter, so it was a little tricky. There isn't really enough contrast between my skirt and the door, but at least the colors are decent. I also took the picture above in the car with my Treo because the lighting was nice today. The colors are all fadey since it's a Treo photo, but I still like it. BTW, it's officially fall. Aaaaagh.

I finished my snuggly chocolate brown skirt! It has a foldy-over waistband now, which covers the tops of the pockets when it's folded down, so they're super-secret. I tried it out by doing the dishes while listening to my iPod, with the iPod in the special pocket, and it works great. I think this is the best fitting waistband so far (of three of this style skirt). I did each one differently and have no idea what the "right" way is. But they're all okay. Tomorrow's going to be COLD, so I guess I'll get a chance to test it out for real. I'll try to take a picture soonish.

I made a Travel Map of all the places we've flown to in Tango! If you click on the map, you can zoom in and/or see an expandable list of them all.
