I finished blind-hemming my pants and they turned out great! Wowowow. I've had them for months (consignment store, natch) and have never worn them because they were miles too long (and also it was skirt season anyway) but now I can! They look pro.

!!! I just got a phone call: my GREEN toothpaste is in at Whole! And just when I thought they'd failed (they said it would take a lot shorter than this)!

Laura: "Wait! Pause it! I have a brain freeze. I can't... I can't, uh, remember the name of that guy."
Dean: "Which one?"
Laura: "The guy I like."
Dean: "Toby?"
Laura: "No!" *cracking up* "The preppy one."
Dean: "Uh..." *thinks* *thinks*
Laura: "Terrible! Why can't we think of his name?"
Dean: "It's Paul."
Laura: "No it isn't!"
Dean: "Paul Williams."
Laura: "Hahahahahahaha!"

So we referred to Andy Bernard as Paul Williams for the rest of the show. (Even though Dean remembered his real name a few minutes later.) ...Isn't Paul Williams the name of that music writer guy?

Stew's has a whole new stand in the donut area now! It has the soft warm just-made donuts, new soft pretzels, and new kettle corn. All made right there, but the donuts are the best part x 1,000,000. I asked the coffee guy about it, and he said it was just assembled last night. I decided that a warm Stew's donut is the best food in the world, pretty much. I ate mine while drinking good Stew's coffee and listening to the milk carton singers' show. I really like the milk carton singers. I thought the donuts might be pumpkin donuts (because there was a pumpkin on display on the new stand) but it was actually an apple cider donut. I asked. So, no Pumpkin Injunction points for me. I also failed (but tried!) to get a pumpkin beer at ION tonight. It was on the menu but crossed off. Alas.

"Winter goes into summer, summer goes into fall
I look into the mirror, don't see anything at all
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now."

Listened to the version of "Mississippi" on the third disc of Tell-Tale Signs about four times in a row in the car. It was so perfect for today. Dark, soft gray, misty-moisty, but surprisingly warm. I mean, not summer warm, but not cold. 60s, calm and still. Nice. Love LOVE my new wooly shoes and dark purple texturey tights.

I got a free Husky-Viking lesson from Susan at Jo-Ann's! She was there, so I asked her to show me again how to do a blind hem. Blind hems are very cool but hard to wrap my brain around. I'm going to try it on a pair of pants I have to shorten.

Oh, I went by Suder's driving between the Ber Turnpike and Uptown, and there was a message on the signboard that they are closing October 9th. That's today. :-( I actually thought they were already closed. I haven't been in a while since I'm not that into fall harvest foods (squash and more squash). Bad, I know. BTW, my official Suder Blueberry Count was 11. And 1 blackberry and 3 raspberries. But I also got a zillion blueberries from other places, like Berruti's, Draghi's and Buell's.

Snagged a beautiful short sleeved sweater at Uptown that was new with tags (originally $58, and I paid $16--a lot for an Uptown purchase, but worth it!). It has a nice unstrangley neckline and fits the "what the heck do I wear with this? help, I don't know how to transition into fall!" chasm perfectly. The receipt said it was a "Pet Sweater," so that's what Dean entered in his accounting program. I think it was short for petite. But wearing a pet sweater sounds pretty cute. :-)

It's a lot of work to prepare fresh fava beans (all that shelling x 2!) but they're pretty special, so I guess it's worth it. I forgot to mention that I followed the Pumpkin Injunction today by getting pumpkin seeds and salt-roasting them on top of the stove. Supper = fava beans + pumpkin seeds + winter squash tortelloni. See, I'm trying!

Such nice nice nice nice weather. Sun. We're getting more sunny warm fall days than we had sunny warm days in early summer! I love my homemade chocolate brown fleece skirt. And look what came in the mail today: my caramel brown bamboo velour from Etsy. ♥♥♥ I massively wanted these hand made bamboo velour skirts I saw at an organic place across the street from Oshima Surf on Mamalohoa Highway in Hawaii, but they were about $100 apiece (and they didn't have my size, either). Now I can make one myself! I had my eye on this seller for a while, and I couldn't believe it when she listed this color. Mmmm. Don't know if this fabric is as nice as the Mamalohoa stuff, but it's bamboo and it's soft and it's delicious colored, so you can't go wrong with that.

Went to the West Hartford Whole Foods today since I felt like a Borders cappuccino (current best cappuccino around) and just for a change form the Glastonbury branch, even though I love Glastonbury. I like the Glas branch so much better, but it was cool because they had some different stuff. Fresh fava beans! And lots of Milo in Maine shirts! ♥ I had to point out to the Borders Cafe guys that they had nutmeg in the chocolate shaker, though. What the heck, Borders guys? Is this part of a conspiracy to impose autumnalness on me or something? Luckily I smelled it and didn't fall for the trickery.

Bleah, my eyes are so wonky today that I feel sick. I had to go lie down in a lukewarm bath with my sponge friend for a while, and that helped, but I still don't feel great. What the heck, eyes?

My wind friend is baaaaaaack. But I can't complain; the past three days were calm and sunny and almost 70°. This has been a gorgeous fall so far. Up with warm! Down with crisp!

yesterday's flight

It was way better in person, of course. Here are a couple more fog pictures: one and two. It felt so nostalgic landing at good ol' Parl.

Pumpkins!!!! Huge fields full of pumpkins, like little orange pin heads. Tons of fog in the valleys today, like fallen clouds. And a big trainyard, rows and rows, so linear. Never seen this much fog, by any stretch. Lots of fall color in the Berkshires, and reservoirs as smooth as a sheet of glass. Lush green grass. Farms, fields, soft blue hills. Full white moon and windmills.

"It's 2009 and Grand Funk Railroad is celebrating 40 years of funk!!!! God bless America from An American Band!" We're doing an outdoorsing on the deck and Grand Funk Railroad is performing at the Berlin Fair right now! We can hear almost every word! Dean identified "Some Kind of Wonderful" even though he knows nothing about music. Hahahah! Good guitar!

It's NICE out, just for Dean's birthday. Low 70s, sunny. We're going to fly to Parlin later for dinner. Haven't been to the Lil' Red Baron in a while.
