52 degrees! It feels like spring. We're going to Parl. It's even supposed to be warm (lower 40s) there. Good ol' Parl.

Wow! I managed to put on/tie my coral fossil cuff bracelet all by myself!

:-) I can't wait to meet P. She's so nice on the phone (well, she seems to think I'm the nicest person ever) and I really think I'll be able to help her out. Too bad I'm a nighthawk and she's an early bird, but I think we'll be able to meet in the middle.

Numb eyeballs! ♥ A bit disconcerting, but I love the feeling. It does seem like he should warn you though.

I had to get up early today since I have an Arm Guy appointment at noon, so I set a "Get Up!" event with an alarm on my Treo. It has a thing where you can have the alarm go off early if you want it to, like if you want a 5 minute warning before the actual event. If you want it to ring on time, you just set it for 0. Well, somehow I set it to ring 98 minutes early. Let me tell you, I was very confused when the alarm woke me up.

shaking hands with a Buddha's HandYay! My birthday's officially over! I had a pretty good birthday, even though I was feeling cold and blah all day until Dean came home. He took me out for sushi at the Little and to Novaki's for dessert. ♥ And then we watched "Prometheus"! Parts one AND two! I have been waiting 14 years to see part two of the cliffhanger!

There was a huge table of Italians at Novaki's and it was very entertaining listening to them talk. We also observed that the Sambucca Sun has a mustache and a toothpick in his mouth. Wow, I just looked up Sambucca on Wikipedia, and it says it's often served as an ammazzacaffè, which means "coffee killer"! It can also be served in coffee (or set on fire!). I guess that's why the Sambucca Sun guy is on Novaki's cappuccino saucers.

Anyway, Novaki wasn't there, but the woman on duty (we weren't sure what relation she was) made me really nice foam, and provided a lighter for the birthday candles I brought and gave to Dean. :-) She was super-pleased that it was my birthday. Dean picked out two orange polka-dotted candles, and he even sang happy birthday to me! I took a picture of our cappuccino cake and cannoli (with chocolate chips instead of nuts, and Dean gave them all to me!), and of my cappuccino.

I also took a birthday self-portrait while I was waiting for Dean to get home from work. I wore blue for Wear Blue for Oceans day, and I wore my Undersea necklace by Jill Bliss (the pendant hangs from fuzzy turquoise yarn, and has reef creatures drawn on shrinky-dink material!). I also wore my fishbone socks, but I do that practically every day this time of year (except when I'm wearing tights). And I wore my bracelet that Dean got for me at the South Kona Green Market (made of velvety gray Weleweka seeds + olivine crystals + turquoise). All very matching! You can see it in this photo, which isn't quite as good, but does show the bracelet. :-)

This morning (well, noon o'clock) I had the first massage of my six-month Massage Club membership that Dean got me for Christmas. I got a special hot stone one for my birthday, and it was very relaxing, even though I was cold! (Yes, I was cold during a hot stone massage. I know I am insane.) I was cold all day until I came home and changed into the above outfit and put on two sweaters at the same time. After the massage I was sitting in my car mmmmming before driving away, and tiny little snowflakes were falling across the windshield, even though there was no snow in the forecast.

Also: I stumbled on the Glastonbury post office! I saved the location on my Guy so I'll know where it is in the future. My Guy didn't know about the Glastonbury one, for some reason, and always made me drive all the way to South Glastonbury (near Dara's) or Wethersfield (near the Narcissus Chocolate Cafe) when I needed a post office while in Glastonbury. What the heck, Guy, it was two inches away all along!

I also stumbled on a weird/cool product at Whole Foods that of course I had to buy: anchoviar! It's fake caviar made out of anchovies (+ squid ink!). They also had one made from herring and one made from truffles! (Vegetarian, I think...) If the anchoviar is good, I'll have to get it. The stuff looks just like caviar... it's freakish! Will eat tomorrow and report back.

And finally, I bought a crochet hook to finish the edge of my knitting (when the time comes). I didn't know what size to get, and there were a million choices, so I just picked out the best color. It's mauve aluminium. ♥

P.S. The photo at the top is me shaking hands with a Buddha's Hand at Whole Foods today.

Wow, Necco Wafers use purple cabbage, turmeric, paprika, and red beets as coloring! That's so cool. (But a food made by the New England Confectionery Co. is obviously cool.)

Posted at 6:02:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

It's salt!!! And it smells good. :-) And Necco Wafers, which I am chomping immediately. So classic. "7 Great Flavors!" My first one was clove. (Clearly the coolest flav.)

Yay! I finally got my Beag back, and I finally got in touch with the new blind lady I'm going to visit! So nice to have a speedy accellerator and sky looking down on me. :-) There was a GIANT traffic jam in Glastonbury from a car accident x 2, so it look forever to get to Langan (nearly an hour from Rocky Hill!!) but now Beag's back safe and sound in the driveway.

Also, I got the cutest-ever box in the mail, from Susie! I don't even know what's inside yet, but the box itself is making me grin like mad. It's brilliant!

I'm feeling way better today, even though my arm hurts again.

Okay, Captain Awesome was good. Casey was okay (but too... Adam Baldwin-y, again). And at least they didn't overdo it with the music this time. It was definitely better than the previous two episodes. But Chuck himself...? :-(

Posted at 10:18:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

Bleaaaaagh. New Chuck is such a Rocky Hill Starbucks. :-( :-( :-( This'll teach me not to ever love anything. You think I would have learned my lesson by now. And Dean claims he thinks the new season is great! WTF.

Posted at 10:06:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

P.P.S. I hated the supposed mangosteen tea! And it tastes nothing like mangosteens.

P.P.P.S. The supposed reason why my car isn't ready yet is that they want the detailer to clean it up first, and he wasn't in today. Hmm.

P.P.P.P.S. Time to watch the third new Chuck ep. Am SCARED.

Posted at 8:33:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

Ooooh, my birthday is "Wear Blue for Oceans" Day! :-)

Posted at 8:28:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

P.S. Still driving the Lame Beagle. Why my car isn't fixed yet, I have no idea. Gene Langan Volkswagen in Glastonbury, you are not impressing me. At all.

Posted at 6:28:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

mangosteen green teaMangosteen green tea!? With matcha. Yes, I bought it, but only because of the matcha. It cracks me up how mangosteen is everywhere now. If you want to know what's going to be trendy in 4-5 years, just observe what I'm obsessed with and no else has ever heard of! Also: does this tea taste anything like mangosteen? I seriously doubt it. Will sample and report back. Since it's such a miracle fruit, maybe it will cure my sore throat. (Speaking of Miracle Fruit: that's probably the next trend.)

I got two birthday presents and a birthday card in the mail! All from my Gingers, and all surprises. :-) One of the presents is turquoise-and-midnight blue polka-dotted Reef slippers with furry insides! I am all outfitted for a warm & loungey winter, with the two new flannel PJ bottoms my mom made me for Christmas (candycane striped + multicolored almost-Moiré squares).

I am still seriously bummed about Chuck, but I feel a bit better after walking around in the crisp Middletown air, and getting a thick-as-marshmallow creme single bohemian at Klekolo. There's another new Chuck episode tonight. Aaaaghghahaghhahah. I hope things improve. Chuck better not turn into the new Rocky Hill Starbucks!

Posted at 5:25:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

Blah. I still don't feel good, but I can't tell if I'm really sick or not. My throat hurts and I don't have any energy, but that's it.

Posted at 2:35:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

Oh good, a lot of the TWoP people had the same reaction I did. I mean, not good, but... *sigh*.

Well, everyone but me thinks it was awesome. Why am I not surprised?

Posted at 11:33:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

Bleah, I am so disappointed in the new Chuck. It just feels forced and wrong and heavyhanded. :-( Maybe it will improve. I hope so. Episode two was a lot better than (ugh!) episode one, but even so. Blah.

I don't feel good today, anyway. I'm tired. I hope I'm not getting sick.

Bath and bed. Now.

Double-speed could only be stood by me for about two minutes, so don't try that in the future. (Bob sounded pretty good, though.) Finished tree! Dean helped! Good thing, because I predict massive arm pain tomorrow. Also, I tried to take notes to update my shamefully out of date Ornament Inventory spreadsheet. The last time I updated it was January 2005, and I got a bunch (not that many, fortunately) of new ornaments since then.

Posted at 5:15:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

We're taking down the tree today, and I told Dean that when you take down the tree you're supposed to listen to the same music you did when you put it up, only in reverse. That's too complicated, so instead we're playing Christmas in the Heart at double-speed, Chimpmunks-style. (We rigged it so the iPod thinks it's an audiobook, allowing faster-than-normal play speed.) I'm sure it will be a good motivator.
